FAMILY: His parents are John and Charlotte Lupin. Remus loves his parents, though they've put a self-imposed distance between themselves and their son. Remus’ dad feels he's responsible for his son's condition, and his mum doesn't know how to not make it a big deal. She tries to treat Remus normally, but by highlighting how “normal” he is she just makes his “furry little problem” even more obvious.

BIOGRAPHY: The Lupins lived a modest lifestyle, but always had food on the table, and there was never a lack of love to go around. As a child, Remus had a weak immune system and was often sick, so his parents opted to tutor him at home rather than attend primary school. He was quick to learn his subjects and advanced beyond the normal academic levels for his age. Being isolated from other children so much of the time led to Remus’ love for books. Quite often his parents would catch him reading under his duvet far past his bedtime. It was that isolation that drove him to be painfully shy and hesitant to approach others.

Through circumstances out of Remus’ control, his father offended a werewolf by the name of Fenrir Greyback. Remus’ childhood had been a relatively peaceful and simple one, until one summer when he was five Remus was bitten by Greyback. His parents tried everything, but there was no cure. Remus was very young when this incident happened, and any hope that he would eventually outgrow his shyness flew out the window after he was bitten. His parents pulled him into even further isolation. Even when he received his invitation to attend Hogwarts after his eleventh birthday, the Lupins were hesitant to allow their son to go away to school. It wasn’t until they were assured by Dumbledore himself that Remus would be safe and taken care of that they allowed their son to go. Dumbledore arranged for a shack to be built in Hogsmeade, where Remus was to go to by way of a secret passage leading from the Whomping Willow every month during the full moon in order to conceal his secret. The transformation from human to werewolf involves excruciating pain, and with no one to chase after or fight with at the time, Remus would attack himself with his claws and teeth, usually resulting in nasty gashes and bite marks. The cries of pain that those in Hogsmeade heard were so brutal that the building was dubbed the Shrieking Shack, believed to be haunted by frightening ghosts. This rumor kept curious visitors away and helped keep Remus’ secret.

Remus was sorted into Gryffindor, despite his parents assuming he'd be a Ravenclaw. He kept to himself as much as he could, but secretly wished to have a group of friends he could fit in with. His wish was granted when he made good friends with his dorm mates, James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew. They figured out Remus was a werewolf in their second year. Remus feared the worst - that his friends would be disgusted and abandon him - but in fact they seemed impressed and sympathetic. Remus had always felt like an outcast, but they made him feel special. By their fifth year they managed to become Animagi in order to keep Remus company during his transformations. They became the Marauders; Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs.

PERSONALITY: Being an only child and having not grown up with any other kids around, Remus is quite introverted and quiet. He's excruciatingly shy around those he's not comfortable with. When surrounded by what few close friends he has, Remus is rather witty and charming. He's very book-smart, and loves to learn for learning's sake. His intelligence makes him knowledgeable in many subjects. Out of the Marauders, he's the most sensible and rational, and a good mediator when arguments break out. He's compassionate; he cares deeply about other people's feelings and is quite good at reading people. He's very brave when it counts, though in a far quieter way than many of his housemates. He's hard-working and willing to do pretty much whatever is asked of him, no matter how tedious or dangerous.

His biggest flaw is that he likes being liked, and he gives a lot of slack to his friends because of it. He's extremely modest, to the point of pushing low-self-esteem. He isn't quick to trust anyone, but at the same time he does long for companionship. He doesn't stand up for himself because he's incredibly non-confrontational; he'd rather give in than argue and sometimes people take advantage of him. He doesn't take proper care of himself, pushing himself to exhaustion and illness in times of stress, adding an extra burden for those around him. He sometimes has a hard time relating well to others and is often more aloof or formal than the situation calls for. He hesitates to give too much of himself away to anyone, and therefore often pretends to have no opinion, plan or preference when that isn't the case.

APPEARANCE: Remus is skinny, of average height, and has a certain an air of fragility about him. His hair is light brown, straight, though slightly unkempt from time to time, but he does tend to brush it, unlike James. His eyes are a deep blue and are very expressive, so he has a hard time hiding when he's tired or upset. They also light up brilliantly when he really smiles, which is neither rare nor often. His voice is soft and has a definite husky quality to it. He has a few scars, but you’ll only see them if you get him naked. And if you somehow manage that, you deserve a medal. Made of chocolate.
